City Council

Joan Gist
Joan's candidacy for Detroit City Council focuses on her civic mission: to restore business ethics and professionalism to the Council; revitalize the community by inviting and retaining economic development and redevelopment; and to renew in the spirits of Detroiters the knowledge that their elected Council can lead effectively the legislative interests of Detroit.

Employed by Butzel Long; a graduate of Cass Technical High, a Bachelor's Degree in Management and Leadership, and now pursuing a Masters of Science degree in Management.

Barbara Herard
Because of her great love for the City of Detroit as a citizen, media personality, and a woman of faith, she has been called to run for the office of Detroit City Council.  She currently serves on the staff of her mentor, Congressman John Conyers.

Herard started out 20 years ago, as an educator and precinct delegate in District 17-16 (N. Rosedale Park in the 14th Congressional District).  Her platform is to implement within our citizens a sense of pride by a total revitalization of downtown Detroit spreading out to 8 Mile Road.

Herard's passion for youth would be revised-by going into our schools and uplifting their educational advantages for college and/or careers-bringing them the many opportunities in the media, on her weekly WHPR Comcast Cable Ch. 72 TV, and 88.1 FM Radio broadcasts, where they can voice their opinions and sharpen their communication skills.  Also, she will implement neighborhood crime stoppers, city-wide health care, training, housing, employment, business opportunities, and retraining aid for the homeless, while looking into the needs of our seniors and more nursing home care specialization.

Orlando Maddox

health care professional who believes that
"What we do in local government affects
every facet of our community!"
He is a graduate of the University of Michigan;

•Effective Business Development
• Pro District Representation
•Public School Advocator
• Greater Public Safety
•Tax Base Reform
Maddox’s public service & affiliations include: Greater Grace Temple, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., Urban League, N.A.A.C.P., Focus Hope, Detroit Young Democrats, and Rouge Rescue Volunteer.
